Two Very Important Things For Us – Wasabi & Cancer Wellness Awareness
June 26 marks National Cancer Wellness Awareness Day here in Canada. It’s not the most recognised of awareness days, nor one that you might read a whole lot about, but it’s one that’s incredibly important to us here at Wowsabi.
According to research 1 in 2 Canadians are expected to develop cancer in their lifetime. It’s a staggering statistic, and yet most people who suffer from the disease are unaware of the importance of Cancer Wellness.
So what exactly is Cancer Wellness?
For those who don’t know, Cancer Wellness is a whole-person approach to tackling the disease.
It focuses on all of the challenges that come with a cancer diagnosis: fatigue, quality of life, diet, mental health, and empowers people to make changes to their lives to live with and through cancer.
A Subject That’s Close To Our Hearts
It’s a subject that hits home with us here at Wowsabi. In fact, it’s one of the reasons we started growing wasabi on our family farm here in British Columbia in the first place.
You see, just as we were starting to explore the medicinal benefits of wasabi and the potential of growing it here on our family farm, our lives were turned upside down when two family members were diagnosed with cancer.
Suddenly, the future didn’t seem so certain. But our family are nothing if not hard workers, and the pair dedicated themselves to beating cancer and fought it in every way they knew how. That’s why, in conjunction with modern medicine, the pair sought complementary forms of treatment, and began taking wasabi in raw form and as pill supplements.
How Wasabi Helped
Thankfully, in both cases, their cancer went into remission.
We can’t say for sure that wasabi cured their cancer, but both of our family members believe that taking wasabi every day, combined with modern medicine, helped them fight it off. What we can say with certainty however is that they are not alone. In fact, there is research out there that explains how wasabi could have helped our family members fight their cancer.
As a result, we began growing wasabi on our farm so that we could help others to explore the potential benefits this incredible plant offers. Fast forward to today and we are the only company in Canada with a licence to produce wasabi capsules, which we sell both in-store and via our website.
It’s our small way of sharing what we learned, and to spread the message of Cancer Wellness across Canada and beyond.
